Exercise Adherence and Beginners

Starting an exercise programme for a non-exerciser represents a major change in behaviour and as such will be a challenge. For many, the greatest challenge is actually starting the programme..

With National Fitness Day tomorrow, check out Robin's blog on Exercise Adherence for Beginners to see how you can adjust your mindset to appeal to this clientele.

How Well Do You Know Your Gut?

What a book, where to begin?  The book provides an insight into the body’s organ and all the systems that works together with the Gut.  Engaging the reader with an explanation as to why we should pay more attention to the gut and how it can aid our health.  There is discussion about the lack of interest in this organ, lack of understanding, embarrassment almost over the organ and the digestive system.  You know ladies don’t actually poo right?!  It’s all roses..

When I saw Amelia Freer release the 10-day plan and the focus of the book, I thought this would be a good book to try. The mission is to introduce the reader to a healthy nutritional balance, rather than diets.  It challenges how you think about food, forcing you to evaluate yourself and how you respond to food.

A day in the life of a tutor

A day in the life of a tutor..

I absolutely love teaching, I have learnt something new from every group I have taught. For 10 years, being in the studio all day, music on, sharing a passion with an excited team of budding new students, starting their journey in their new career choice.. I can't say it's always fun, sometimes very challenging and even emotional but I wouldn't change any part of my journey.

The only thing that I do find very common on my courses and really gets me analysing...

Just qualified – Now what do I do?

I have recently moved to a new area. It has been an interesting reminder to experience what new instructors have to go through in order to gain a class.

At one time it was enough to teach aerobics, now you have to demonstrate what other skills you have. It helps if you teach a mixture of branded classes but at the same time have the ability to be able to design a programme various types of class as it gives you opportunity to cover a variety of classes.

Here are my top ten tips to get on the ladder:

Can Fitness Instructors get the community physically active..

As a tutor and assessor, who has been working in the fitness industry for 12 years I have always been surrounded by individuals who love fitness.  They enjoy exercise, attend fitness classes or the gym, have the latest trainers or fitness calorie counting app.. But what about the people who don't enjoy this?

Fitness Instructors needing to follow their own advice!

For someone who works in the fitness industry lately I have spent a lot of time sitting down. Administration catch up (too much paperwork to be healthy) and driving. On the plus side I get to see beautiful parts of the country but the down side is sitting in the car for hours. It would be wonderful if Fred Flintstones car really did exist; you would get a great workout!

Lately I have found it difficult to do the recommended amount of daily activity needed for health.
