This month I challenged my regular walkers to do extension exercises. We spend so much of our time doing movement patterns that flex the spine, round the shoulders and shorten the hip flexors and hamstrings.  We walk and run forwards which stress our joints and muscles in the same way. We often talk about the need of having balance in our exercise programmes to help ensure are bodies are aligned and function properly.

After a month of extension exercises and stretching, my members said how good they felt doing something different to what they usually do. It has made them feel more open and they are moving more freely.

It got me thinking how we can see improvements in our mental state as well as our physical if we change our regular way of doing things. Sometimes we are forced into doing things differently. COVID completely changed the way we work and communicate. Ad-Lib Training always delivered face to face training programmes and naively believed it was the only way, as many of our learners have difficulties. But when forced to do the opposite and go online we quickly learned that a more flexible approach was better for our clients as well as ourselves. It opened us up to achieving more and given us new opportunities.

I have been looking at how other companies have evolved over the past two years. The ones who have had the opportunity to change are the ones who are now achieving success. They are also in a better position and more prepared for the next curve ball.

This need for reversing what we do or finding different ways clearly relates to climate change and the way we live. That has been the message we have been receiving. I am currently looking at the way I shop, eat, travel, and warm my home. If I am honest, I am the same as many others who fear change.

So, for my next challenge I am going to work on my flexibility; only this time, it is not about my physical training programme. I am going to slow down, stop and think before I act in my personal life as well as professionally.

It would be interesting to hear how your business delivery has had to change because of circumstance or are you naturally the type of person/organisation who is constantly evolving?
