This month sees the launch of two exciting new qualifications designed to encourage learners and those around them to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Last autumn we began the process of reimagining our community activator offering, working with our customers to ensure our training reflected the skills that they felt were vital in their community leaders .  We received overwhelming feedback that health isn’t simply a medical issue, it is also a social issue that encompasses more than just physical health.  Based on this we began to explore the introduction of a more holistic health content approach including learning aims and outcomes based around sleep and mental health.

The culmination of this development, supported by Active IQ, are two qualifications – the Level 1 Award in Influencing Health and Wellbeing and the Level 2 Award in Health and Community Activation.

The Level 1 Award in Influencing Health and Wellbeing provides learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence to become more physically and socially active within their communities, explore their own lifestyle choices and identify where positive changes can be made to improve their health and wellbeing.

The course aims to support learners to build their self-esteem, improved sense of wellbeing and move on to further training and education and move away from negative influences in their lives by opening up more social, physical, volunteering, employment and educational pathways on a long-term basis.

The Level 2 Award in Health and Community Activation provides potential community physical activity leaders with the skills and confidence to support members of their community to adopt and maintain healthier and more active lifestyles. Learners are given the knowledge and skills to be able to plan and lead designated physical activity sessions. Learners are also given the opportunity to develop their communication skills and support healthy change within their families and local communities.

We are confident that these innovative qualifications will help learners to understand and apply both the core health knowledge skills and the practical helpful conversation and delivery competences that underpin health and wellbeing.  As a result, we can ensure that those working in their local community have the right skills to be able to signpost people to physical activity.
