The cost of living is already increasing a lot over the last few months. Unfortunately for some they will consider giving up their gym membership or Pilates class etc. as the see it as a luxury item. But the truth is it is vital, we stay fit and healthy over the next few months, especially if heating the home is going to be difficult.

Healthy bodies cope with the cold a lot better as exercise greatly improves circulation.

Blood pressure and stress levels can be reduced, and mood greatly improved. Fitter people will often have a more positive attitude.

Exercise will often help you sleep better at night giving you more energy to deal with the day ahead.

If cost is an issue, then exercising outdoors can be free.  Outdoor activities give you the benefit of vitamin D all year round.

Finding locations close to home can save on travel time and fuel. It is better for the environment.

Many parks now have trim trails or outdoor gyms that are free to use. In some cases, there will be volunteers leading outdoor exercise sessions.

If you are lucky enough to live by the sea, beaches are a great place to exercise. The terrain offers extra resistance for walking and running. Groins and benches can be used as exercise benches.  The wind can also increase the intensity, especially if you are working out in a headwind.

All over the country there are open water swimming groups in local rivers, lakes, and the sea.

The health benefits are well documented, including reducing the risk of cancer, neurological disorders and chronic respiratory disease. It and can also help to improve the management of asthma and Type 2 Diabetes.

It is greatly documented how spending time in woodland areas and forests is beneficial to our health. Not only can we use the natural environment as a gym, but forest bathing helps mental state.

With more external pressures, exercise for your mental health is vital.

Ad-Lib Training can support organisations in training Community Activators and Health Influencers to work within the local community and help people to become more active this winter. The NHS are already struggling to cope. The healthier we are the less we need their support.
