Did you know the 21st November is World National Hello Day?

It is a day to celebrate connecting with others and saying “Hello” to strangers.

Can you say “Hello” to ten new people today? Set it as a challenge this morning and let us know how it goes.

But why celebrate such a day?

There is a lot of power behind a simple hello, relating to mental wellbeing, positivity, connection and the social aspect of speaking to others.

It is normal to see many people lost in their hectic days, walking along with their head down, looking at their phone or they have their headphones in. So much of our lives is tied to technology, that looking up is often forgotten.

We have spoken on here before about Mental Wellbeing and how connecting with others can have a big impact to those around you and your own mental health. The NHS talk about the five pillars of wellbeing and number one is based on a social connection.*

Saying hello with a smile can spread positivity, which gets passed on to another. In a time, where there is a lot of doom and gloom, lets lighten someone’s day (as well as our own!). You never know, it could change your course; making a new friend, creating opportunities, or just reminding people of kindness and to be polite.

I tried this at my local leisure centre earlier today and randomly met a new person who happens to be a friends neighbour.. small World! And it left me with a smile on my face.

Should you want to know more about the pillars of wellbeing. You can read more on our blog 'connect-move-learn-give-and-be' or check out the NHS link below.

Even better, one small act of kindness for 6 weeks can have a lasting impact on your health. Why not keep it going after today! One small hello a day…

Go on, say hello to someone new!
